2010 Total Solar Eclipse - Mayhugh Travel, Inc. is not offering a program for this years total eclipse. Original plans for an eclipse cruise on the Tahitian Princess fell through when the cruise line moved her away from Tahiti and land options in Tahiti and Easter Island proved to be very expensive.
Roy and Bonnie will be joining the Sita World Tours eclipse program to El Calafate, Argentina (Patagonia). The price is affordable, just $1,180 per person for the 6 day main tour. Itinerary includes Buenos Aires, El Calafate where we will view the eclipse.

I've had lots of questions about the viewing plan for this trip. Here are the details.
After the excursion the group will return to the Alto Calafate Hotel where private facilities will be set up for our group to view the eclipse.
This site is on a bluff south and east of town (toward but not on the centerline). The elevation of the site is about 100 meters above lake level and the town.
I calculated the following circumstances.
- 1st contact: 19:44:14.2 sun elevation +8.57 deg
- ----Total Phase Begins-----
- 2nd contact: 20:48:27.5 sun elevation +1.49 deg
- Mid-eclipse: 20:49:52.7 sun elevation +1.33 deg
- 3rd contact: 20:51:17.9 sun elevation +1.17 deg
- ----Total Phase Ends-------
- 4th contact: 21:50:38.4 NOT VISIBLE -7.2 deg
Penumbral Duration = 02:06:24.3
Umbral Duration (total phase duration) = 02:50.4
Maximum Magnitude = 1.021
The above values are corrected for refraction.
The Andes Mts. protrudes above the horizon between 1 and 1.2 deg where the sun will be setting from our viewing location. This means the entire sun will be above the horizon for most of the total phase of the eclipse. However the point where the diamond ring, signifying the end of the total phase, will erupt is located at about the worst possible point along the limb of the sun. It will probably be just below the horizon and not visible to us.
There is a small chance that the third contact diamond ring will be visible to us for a short time. This would occur if weather conditions are just right - say an inversion layer is located on the sight line of the eclipse causing refraction to extend the apparent sunset. When this phenomenon occurs the sun appears to be "flattened" or "squashed". Should be a very interesting and unique view.
I'd like to thank Glenn Schneider for checking my results and improving resolution.
Sita is working on an optional site that is about 800 meters higher in elevation that will see the third contact diamond ring, as long as skies are clear in the direction of the eclipse. Expect to pay an additional fee to cover transportation costs to this other site. I will pass along details about this once I get them from Sita.

FUTURE PROGRAMS
2012 Annular Sunset Eclipse - May 20, 2012 a stunning annular eclipse will be visible at sunset in the South Western part of the US. If you've never seen one, annular eclipses are particularly stunning at sunset! We are planning two programs for this eclipse - a low cost eclipse camp for motorhomes and tents near the Four Corners of Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado and a luxury, fully escorted tour of the Western US that begins and ends in fabulous Las Vegas that includes the Grand Canyon, Brice Canyon, Zion National Park a visit to the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff and an excursion to meteor crater.
2012 Total Solar Eclipse - On November 13, 2012 to total solar eclipse begins at sunrise in the far northern reaches of Australia. At maximum eclipse the duration of the total phase exceeds four minutes. This point lies east of North Island, New Zealand. We are working to develop an Australian land program as well as an eclipse cruise for this eclipse. We hope to have preliminary details available here in early 2010.
Office is currently closed - Because we currently are not offering any vacation programs our office presently closed. If you call you will likely not catch anyone in. Please leave a message and someone will return your call. The best way to communicate with us is by Email.
